Orange County Virginia Schools: Indoctrination of Lies

Update March 20, 2015 @ 8:00am – The parents were on Fox & Friends on Thursday morning.

UPDATE: March 17, 2015 @ 10:ooam – It has been brought to my attention that the Orange County School board has issued a statement.

SilenceDogood2010 OP ED #2 — I have noticed that the comments supporting this atrocity are few and far between. And just this morning, I’ve had another commenter that claims her child attends this school. Yet the IP Address, from where the comment was made, is out of Georgia. That’s gotta be one hellava of a bus ride to & from school.

I have also been asked to edit and change contents of this post. Respectfully I refuse to do so. This issue came to light a few days ago & as facts present themselves, I shall make amendments to keep my readers informed. I will NOT Re-write History(even though it’s recent History) to appease a handful of whiners.

A wise man once said —- It’s easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled.” ~ Mark Twain

These folks have been fooled into believing that their actions have no consequences. They do. If your name is anywhere on that program, you own part of it. In criminal terms, you are an “Accessory Before the fact“.

Accessory Before The Fact –
Definition– A person who aids, abets, or encourages another to commit a crime but who is not present at the scene. An accessory before the fact, like an accomplice, may be held criminally liable to the same extent as the principal. Many jurisdictions refer to an accessory before the fact as an accomplice.

UPDATE: March 16, 2015 @ 9:ooam —– From one of the comments below it seems that a better number to use is 540-672-4550. It has also been brought to my attention that Ms. Scott, the music teacher, wasn’t involved in the organizing of this program.

It has also been brought to my attention that this event took place either last Thursday or Friday (12th or 13th of March). It had been postponed due to local weather issues.

Allow me to address this issue of Ms. Scott, the music teacher:

SilenceDogood2010’s OP EDThe comments  give the impression that Ms. Scott is innocent and should NOT be held accountable for this program. I disagree. Ms. Scott was asked to provide music for this nightmare. Ms. Scott SHOULD be a responsible adult and inquired about the program & its contents. Instead, she appears to have followed her commanders and marched ‘Goose-Step’ in line with the others. This is what is WRONG in our society today. No one takes responsibility for their involvement in the crime.

As  they say, hindsight is 20-20, but Ms. Scott  should have looked at the program before just ‘Going with the flow’ and providing the ‘Motown Sound’.

However, since this a developing story, I have chosen to REMOVE Ms. Scott’s Phone & email address from this posting.

I stumbled across this group of photos on Facebook. It was 1st posted, or shared by Holly — of Hobby Lobby Fame — and then, as I was vetting the story further, I saw that David Webb had also reported on it. I’m not sure exactly WHEN this program took place but I am guessing sometime in late February.

Here’s the actual text posted to the Facebook photos;

READ IT ALL… In our schools?

This story is sickening from a Police Officer’s perspective. If you’re a Police Officer supporter, this should make you want to throw up.

Notice the words in the first picture of the young lady’s hair. (“I can’t breathe, Stop shooting, etc.)

Of course this is our opinion. Numbers will be provide for you to either “applaud” the school’s efforts or for you to voice your concerns.

In his own words:

Hello, my name is XXXXX XXXXXXX.
I am looking for your help to get this story out there.

Last night my 8 year old daughter attended Orange County Schools annual Black History Month event (Orange County Virginia). We had assumed the program would highlight all the great accomplishments of people like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Or Rosa Parks. Instead, as my wife, 5 year old son and daughter found out, it was very little about them.

As my wife walked into the auditorium, she noticed the students working the event were wearing black t-shirts that stated “I Can’t Breath” and “‪#‎blacklivesmatter‬”. My wife tried to overlook it and settled in to enjoy the program. My daughter had been selected to participate in the program and sing a “Motown Medley” as part of one of the elementary choirs. My wife looked at the program that she was handed as she took her seat and found disturbing and, what I would argue, anti-police propaganda all over it.

At this point my wife had an uneasy feeling about what this program was actually about and quickly realized those black t-shirts were not just some of the students “protesting” but that it was part of the nights theme! One by one students began reciting “last words”. To include

“I’m from Ferguson Missouri…. I was told to put my hands up. I did, and I was shot 7 times. My name is Michael Brown.”

“I was sitting on the couch and the police came in my house and shot me in the head. I was seven years old”.

” I was falsely harassed for selling cigarettes and I was put into a choke hold that eventually lead to my death. I can’t breath my name is Eric Garner”

My wife was shocked and, at first, unable to move. She quickly grabbed her phone and recorded the last two students talking. Our daughter went up on stage as she debated removing her from the program knowing it would break her heart because she had practiced so hard for this and was so excited to perform.

She contacted me and told me what was going on. I told her as soon as xxxxx was done to leave. My wife did so and went to the staff member in charge of the students, with several other parents also unhappy about the program, and asked for our daughter. She was initially told they would not release her until intermission. My wife pressed a little harder and they released the students.

The program list readings that we’re going to be done the second half of the program. The titles included

“Voices: The Exhausting Task of Being Black in America”

“Don’t Shoot”

“Not an Elegy for Mike Brown”

“I Can’t Breathe”

“Does my Black Life Matter”

“They Don’t Really Care About Us”

We are upset about this for many reasons. We were excited to allow our daughter to participate in a Black History event. But why were we not told our daughter would be participating in a political event. Or I’d go as far as saying a protest based off of anti-police sentiment. Why would the school allow this type of rhetoric and, according to Eric Holder, lies. How dare they expose my young children to this type of propaganda.

The worst part about this entire event, was the conversation we had to have with our 8 year old girl well into the night about all of this, why they were saying this and why it was a lie. Things we shouldn’t have had to discuss in the detail we did.

I work very hard to serve my community. I don’t make a lot of money and I don’t ask for recognition for doing my job. But to hear my baby girl ask us why do cops shoot good people? Are they bad cops? Does that make you (me) bad?? It was heart breaking and infuriating all at the same time.

I have contacted the School Board and Lightfoot Elementary Principle. So far I have only heard back from my daughters principle.

60 thoughts on “Orange County Virginia Schools: Indoctrination of Lies

  1. I like to encourage the idea of our children becoming actively engaged in community and political affairs. But these events are too recent to consider as historical and too controversial to create good discussion without having more facts available.

    1. We’ve taken prayer out of school celebration of holidays and the pledge of alligence but controversial political and racial tragedies are ok? They are to new to be considered historical . all they do is reignited feelings of anger, confusion and racism among the impressionable young children of our community. these are issue although unfortunately real are not for elementary children to be learning . They have plenty of time to grow up and deal with adult issues. Instead the history of African American Herod should have been celebrated such as Dr. Marrin Luther King Jr and Harriet Tubbman and the like. Shame to those adults that condoned (orange co school officials) turning a history celebration into a abominal joke of racial , hatred crimes that would be considered current events no history!

      1. You want the history of a few good black people to continue to overshadow the horrible crime America is accustomed too? You want black people who were dead before your children were born to be praised over the black people who are being murdered now? What logic do you have? What since does that make… You people want to live in a slave past, and act like police are not Murdering innocent blacks today? Like…

    2. Bottom line is everything is fine if we just keep our mouths shut and continue the same routine! This is beyond pathetic to say that these are hate speeches and racist in any form. So instead of wondering why we feel this you just go ahead and condemn us as racist or being unfair to officers! You all fail to realize there are black men, women and innocent children being murdered by the rouge cops! As of the OCPD to my knowledge there has been no killing of anyone by cops but i could be wrong. Basically its hurtful to see my people opening up and wanting some answers or solutions and their considered racist or trying to disgrace the cops! I had to remember where we are and Orange County Virginias past history when it comes to race. Say what you may BUT I still stand behind Ms Waller and the program.

      1. It is racist and it is a lie. It is a lie that that Michael brown was shot as he attempted to surrender. Brown was a felon, committing a felony when he was killed by a police officer in the lawful execution of his duties as even Eric Holder’s anti white DOJ was forced to admit. Yet a bunch of ignorant out of work nothings went crazy as if a cop had just shot and killed Rosa Parks. Fools want to elevate low life felons to the level of national heroes. Though not killed by a white man, Trayvon “Skittles” Martin died a just death, shot and killed while committing felonious assault and Hussien makes some speech about if he had a son and Skittles the felon is Skittles the saint. Gardner too brought about his own death. The low life sack of bones shot in Wisconsin, whose mommy proclaims to one and all what a saint her convicted of armed home invasion robbery son was, is instantly made a martyr. Facts be damned! I am sick of people like you making saints of felons who are killed by cops while they are committing felonies. Don’t want to get shot by cops? Stop committing crimes!

What of the real victims of interracial crime? Bet you did not bat an eye when four boys who could have been Hussein’s sons killed a white jogger in Oklahoma did you? Do you weep, is there any public outcry, for the thousands of whites unlawfully raped, robbed assaulted and killed, that is actually murdered by blacks? Did you weep for the ten year old white girl who was anally and vaginally raped by three unarmed black teens before being choked and having her head bashed in? Did you get miffed when Margaret Daniels was killed by a black man? How about this for a headline, “unarmed white woman shot and killed by black felon after being raped.” No different than, “unarmed black teen killed by white cop” except that one is lawful and one is not and yet we never see that headline. I could go on and on but you get the point. But, while we are here, why are whites disproportionately killed, robbed, assaulted and raped by blacks? Why are the victims often pissed on or otherwise made to feel humiliated?

As to lawful killings of whites I will bet you did not notice when a black cop in Alabama shot and killed an unarmed white felon did you? Nor did you rise up when a black cop shot and killed an unarmed white teen (Dillon Taylor) in Utah did you? Nor did you when a black home owner in New York (I think) shot and killed and unarmed white teen who was attempting to steal something from his car.

Guess what… like most of my race I did not cry for these “victims” either because unlike you I did not see color, I saw criminal and cop/home owner. But I guess when you are a member of a race that has contributed the least to society you have the elevate even your lowest to sainthood so that you have something to point to as an excuse for your failures.

Here are some facts for you. An FBI study of police shootings across the USA determined that there are about 400 instances of cops killing Americans annually. Of these 96, on average are black. Yet in 2005 alone 7,999 blacks were murdered and 93% of these were killed by other blacks. In fact, from 1980-2015 over 300,000 blacks had been killed by other blacks. Maybe the real issue, maybe what really bothers you is that you cannot accept that your community is disproportionately responsible for crime in America. Maybe that and the thought of anyone, even one man, from outside your race, killing one black man is more repugnant, no matter how lawful the killing, than 300,000 murders at the hands of brothers? Hey, as a new racist fed up with your whiny crap, I can understand that, I really can. How about we pass a law where anyone convicted of killing someone not of their race is immediately hung? I am all for that, fair is fair. But I am willing to bet you don’t want to play this game that far do you? Extend it to include rape and sexual assault. Hell go further… robbery too!

Once, long ago, believe it or not, I was very tolerant on all things race related. I grew up in Fairfax County in very mixed neighborhoods and we all got along. We were alike in that everyone worked hard and wanted to earn their place and have a fair shot at doing so. But that is not the America my kids will see. So rather than send my daughter to some public school where she learns how evil her race is and how virtuous the black race is, while learning next to nothing of value I send my daughter to a private school. In school she learns things like science, math, reading, writing and so on. And at home I teach her how to hate. Black America understands the value of racial hatred and its ability to bind a people together and I have learned its value from them. There is no America, there is white and black. You have clearly chosen your side and I have chosen mine.

  2. Time to hire lawyers and file suit for hate speech and hate crimes and lies against law abiding officers that did there jobs if you do the crimes then you do the time a criminal is a criminal the people promoting hate need to look at the truth instead of racial lies

      1. Can you sir explain to me why Black men are killing 1000’s of blacks every year yet the MSM, & the majority of the Black Community, sit back and do nothing?

Can you sir explain to me why these so-called ‘Unarmed, Gentle Giants’ are perceived as HEROES in the Black Community? Yet the likes of a Ben Carson, or a Herman Cain, or Allen West are referred to ‘Uncle Toms’?

Lets look at some numbers, shall we?

According to BJS stats (from 2010) — 62,593 Blacks were the victim of WHITE VIOLENCE

        YET

320,063 Whites were victims of BLACK VIOLENCE.

  3. this year my middle schooler took a journalism class. Shortly after the Ferguson verdict and the Eric Gardner death, my husband and I had to sit her down and deprogram her from the lies that her teacher had told the students, which were that in both cases the police shot innocent men in cold blood. It’s sickening and I am tired of the indoctrination my kids are getting while they still can’t even do basic math and spelling! So frustrating.

  4. This actually just took place on the 13th of March. Supervised by two teachers from the high school, but performed by children of all ages, from all the schools in the county.

  5. I live in Orange and I’m so glad that this is being noticed! The program took place March 12 (it had been postponed due to weather). I’m also hearing that Ms. Scott was not as involved as many believed. The best number to use for contact is the school board at 540-672-4550.

  6. You program was good! Ya’ll need to focus more on the talent the those students have and the knowledge they have about our history!!! But no YALL CANT DO THAT CAN YALL??? THIS PROGRAM MET SOME MUCH TO THOSE KIDS AND THE ONLY THING YALL ARE DO IS MAKING THEM UPSET, WHEN THEY DID NOTHING WRONG!!!!

    1. Black Queen, It’s difficult to respect your comments when your spelling and grammar are so atrocious. Whatever you do, don’t quit school anytime soon.

      1. what a fool thing to say- no metter how ets speeled feller- you still get the message.

    2. The children didn’t do anything wrong. The school did for allowing this racism to be taught to children that don’t have a clue what it means. THAT IS WRONG. If you can’t see something wrong with that then I’ll pray for you.

      1. Agreed, it is more about the parents and the school administration for promoting racism and anti-law enforcement propaganda.

    3. Black Queen, apologies for my late reply. Google translator would not accept your text verbatim so it took some work to crack your cipher.

You are correct, it is disappointing that the effort of the students has been overshadowed. However, it is the pathetic and fictitious content that has overshadowed them. It’s the fact that a supposed administrator with a soap box and plenty of pawns decided this was the best way to “celebrate” black history.

Perhaps this can be a teachable moment (I really hate that term) for the students to not just blindly accept what the media, generally liberal administrators (over 80% in fact are), and racists in the “color-blind DOJ” teach them to be the truth. Too many parents have to discredit and de-program their children from the crap they are exposed to on a regular basis from our indoctrination centers…er, schools. Perhaps they can brainstorm ways they can credibly (there’s that word again) communicate their concerns, fears and anger to their community advocates and leaders (note I did not say community organizers as that would in fact be more of a sideshow than this play).

I encourage you to gain a bit of credibility by 1) Taking the time to communicate in grammatically correct sentences. Shorthand and Qwerty are not acceptable forms of communication in the real world. 2) Read up on actual black leaders aside from Dr. King. Another doctor, Ben Carson, would be a great place to start as he strongly advocates for personal accountability, education, work ethic and critical thinking despite being raised in an environment with every excuse to fail. No, Beyoncé, Jay-Z and Kanye are not leaders in the black community so please resist the urge to read their lyrics as inspiration. That would be a step backwards. 3) Here’s a challenge: find out what other themes were presented and discussed prior to this one being chosen. Were they touting actual celebrations of success within the black community? Why were they ultimately not chosen and this theme was?

    1. Frank, you have no clue about the movement or the cases being touted do you? This is just an opportunity for you to be part of something “big”, isn’t it?

      1. hey GUY- you call this lopsided right wing neo- conservative group big ? people getting bent out of shape over a play ? to me it seems only most white people are getting bent out of shape — Christ don’t seem to take much to get you people going down there. I bet none of you would put out this stuff on the –( if you are from orange site.). I grew up there- I know the mentality of that community- it was racist then and it still is. there were Jew- Asian haters- northern people haters- outsider haters- and haters of people that didn’t think like them. blacks would never comment on the orange site- because they and other whites fear the repercussions– pretty damn sad

  7. This is absolutely infuriating. This is our black history lesson? A story built on proven lies? Wake the hell up America. Public schools cannot continue to indoctrinate our kids with fabrications that are completely useless in advancing a legitimate cause of equality. Just another example of how the black community chooses to blame someone, anyone, for the lack of progress in the black community. It has been proven, even admitted by His Holiness Eric Holder’s DOJ, that Brown didn’t have his hands up and that many “witnesses” admitted to lying. Perhaps we should not be writing history the way we would want it to be just so it portrays us more the victim. I’m curious if perhaps there were any positive successes of the black community brought to bear in this play? Certainly would have been a better message for the impressionable high schoolers instead of providing blame for why they have no hope for success in the world.

    Time to home school.

    1. This is not about reason or common sense. Just a reason to have purpose and be part of something. The problem is, this is a violent and racist movement built on the type of lies that Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson use to garner emotional support. All I can say is, be vigilant and don’t hesitate to protect yourself.

  8. I MOST DEFINITELY THINK THAT THIS WAS VERY WRONG ON THE PART OF THE SCHOOL, REGUARDLESS OF WHOSE IDEA IT WAS . SURELY, NO ONE FROM THE SCHOOL BOARD KNEW ABOUT IT, BCUZ CERTAINLY THEY WOULD HAVE PUT A STOP TO IT!!!! I PERSONALLY THINK THAT IT IS DISGRACEFUL THAT IT WAS CARRIED OUT, AND THAT INNOCENT KIDS WERE USED FOR THAT POINT!! AND THEY HAVE THE NERVE TO TELL US THAT WE CAN’T HAVE GOD IN THE SCHOOLS, BUT CAN HAVE THIS KIND OF RUBBISH????? I THINK NOT!! SOMEBODY NEEDS TO GET THEIR PRIORITIES TOGETHER!!!!!!!

  9. My son attends the elementary school that provided the choir. First of all, I want you to realize you just assisted in spreading ELEMENTARY SCHOOL student’s actual names and the school they attend all over the internet. Why is that photo necessary? They were told they would be singing for a “black history” event which was actually this craziness. So much for trying to protect our youth.

Secondly, the music teacher who’s information is on that list was innocent in this also. She was not at the dress rehearsal or performance, she was told to teach her students songs that were appropriate for a “black history” event and she did it. They learned an age appropriate motwon medley. But since her name, phone number, and email were plastered all over the internet she has been receiving terrible and even threatening emails and messages. Let me say this again…A long-standing exceptional Orange Co. teacher and lovely woman is getting threats (even from people she has never met) because someone put her contact information on the internet without having facts strait first and it went viral. And we may very well lose her because of this.

Thirdly, the event happened this past Thursday night. Not in February. It was rescheduled due to weather.

So please, contact the administrators and principals. Tell them how unhappy you are and how unfair it is to involve our youth in this kind of political event. Especially without knowledge of what it really was. But for goodess sakes, act like rational people. Don’t spread hate and anger, don’t make threats and name call. There is already talk of protesting at the schools tomorrow. A lot of parents (including myself) are afraid to send their kids to school. Threats are being made, there is no telling how many angry people will show up at schools that our children will be inside of, and what are the chances our schools will have to be in lockdown for part or most of the day tomorrow? We are scared for our children here people. Please remember that when you involve yourself in this matter.

    1. Humm…. Christie, Can you explain to me the Fact that this comment has an IP Address just outside of Chicago, Il — the Palatine area to be exact, yet you claim that your SON goes to this Elementary School?

      Respectfully submitted by SD2010.

      1. If she won’t I will… My 8 year old daughter listed on the program that you so published out there for your followers to see was in attendance Thursday night. This celebration has been going on for years now, I believe this year was the 5th year. My daughter took part in last years celebration and it was just that, a celebration based on the facts and the history around that time. Ms. Scott is a very compassionate, professional women who has done nothing but bring that same compassion to our youth. She has been a true leader for years and a women I am very grateful my daughter has the honor of knowing. Wednesday night there was a dress rehearsal at the HS (not the ES where so many feel this took place) and due to reasons that no one needs to know about, Ms. Scott was not able to attend, nor was she able to attend the performance, which she was upset about since her students had worked so hard and what teacher doesn’t want to be part of the success of their students. I am very proud of the Lightfoot ES Choir students who at a very young age wanted to be part of something that was supposed to be a positive celebration on how far our society and culture has come. Their choice of music and how they performed was amazing. That is all my 8 year old knows about that night. She knows that we are proud of her and her participation. Those of us older and no longer innocent (as an 8 or 9 year old) know what really has transpired and we are working through that as a community.

So here is a question for you. If your child has been part of an event that has been going on for years that has been fine, would you question what the content of this years performance was about? Neither my husband nor I did. We were proud of the fact that our 8 year old daughter wanted to be part of celebrating our past and what it took to get us where we are today.

So as a parent of a minor, I would appreciate the respect of having the students name removed from your site. No matter how you feel about this, they are still minors and we as adults should be doing what we can do to protect them.

    2. Christie—- FEAR NOT– this is how these people acted there back in the early and mid sixties- just a kid then…. mostly blowhards thinking they are standing for something- when they feel like they one something they will just go home and wait for another stupid issue to come around.. like the big MASTER BAIT– fiasco.. lol they just be simple folk – living in a little tiny tiny tiny town with a bubble over it..

  10. I think this police man and his wife are butt hurt because of the fact he had to tell his daughter that the world isn’t a perfect place, and yes, officers of the law are just people like you and me and can make mistakes or have a personal racist agenda, and yes innocent people get killed in certain circumstances and justice is not brought about. I’m not saying every cop in orange county is racist but from personal experience I can say that at least 80 percent are prejudice towards minorities and racially profile people on the streets. This is personal experience from living here not bias because also, I am white. This whole thing makes me sad

    1. I agree with you 100% Orange County is very prejudice always have been and always will be. I think police officer & his wife who started this mess is just showing there true prejudice

  11. I encourage all of you who are chiming in on cops shooting unarmed citizens to google “Shoot or Don’t Shoot” on Fox 10 Phoenix. Unless you are actually in the situation, you cannot sit in judgement, nor can you know without a doubt what happened. Further, these events are too recent and too controversial to be portrayed in this forum and with young children. I support your right to share your opinion. But, I also think that you should be well informed. You CANNOT be well informed solely relying on the media reports. In this technological age, there is a ton of information on the internet, and not all of it is true!

  12. This has been a long time coming. Black history month should be ended. The government celebrating one race over another is discrimination in my book. the youth today have no knowledge of the struggles that are meaningful, it has become a month of legalized anarchy for them.

  13. OK, so this is how you want this to work. First, I thank you for removing the names, however your comments around that. Really? I provided you with my email address as that is what is required to post. If you were truly wanting facts, you could have emailed me and I would have been happy to provide you with whatever you wanted. Since it is clear you are not really looking for facts, I will give you some. I live in Unionville VA, 5 minutes from Lightfoot ES. In addition to the 8 year old that I have at Lightfoot ES, I also have a 16 year old that attends the High School where this event took place. We moved our family to Orange County back when our youngest was 5 for many reasons. The schools were one of those. You know nothing about me or my family. You have no idea how involved I am with my kids education. Liberal?? Is that the best you have? But yet you are conservative? If you are really interested in Facts, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I am happy to assist.

  14. I just read your Op Ed regarding Ms. Scott. My name is Richard Schmidt, and I am her fiancé. I can tell you that she had ZERO knowledge of what the high school kids were going to do. The Black History Month program is something that has been performed at OCHS for some years now. She was asked to have the Lightfoot Elementary School kids sing some songs; she chose songs from the Motown era. She worked with her kids so that they could perform at their best. That’s it. The rehearsal on Wednesday 3/11 and the ‘performance’ on Thursday 3/12 were handled by others.
If you are going to offer your opinion on such an event that occurred, you best have ALL of the facts first. You need to remove any mention of her whatsoever from this story, and instead of attacking the innocent, why not go after the cowardly person who couldn’t put their name on the original letter? Social Media has turned out to be anything but, because people post things based on emotion first instead of the facts, and then they can hide behind their keyboard and monitor because they know others who react emotionally first will continue this charade of journalism, and they do it at the expense of anyone who gets in the way of what they want the truth to be. In this case it happens to be Ms. Scott, which is totally unfair to her.
Remove her name and information entirely from your site, please.

  15. I doubt it was all Scott’s fault. The school administration and/or district has a responsibility to review the material and verify what it being promoted. In this case the event was very anti-police;It also had an element of anti-white, all while promoted under the name of Black History month.

I agree with the previous poster, Black History month is no longer intended to celebrate black history, it is more anti-government and racially charged than anything else. Our community though needs to stand guard and not back down. If anyone is assaulted, it needs to be addressed, preferably as a hate crime. I would also recommend people be prepared for violence. Be armed and ready to protect yourself and family. Do not allow yourself to be a victim of political correctness, racist violence, or any other race derived injustice.

    1. Guy, Ms. Scott had NOTHING to do with what the high school kids did. She taught her ELEMENTARY school kids some songs from the Motown era. The actual intent of this year’s Black History Month Program wasn’t even told to her. The high school is where the focus should be at, because someone with authority at OCHS had to know what was being planned by the high school kids.

      1. Richard – Kudos to you for standing up for your fiancé and communicating that she was not involved in the high school aspect of this. Please take that as a genuine statement. Sounds like she was caught up unfairly in this.

Personally, I think watching elementary school kids sing Motown would be very much worth watching and a great way to get them involved in a true celebration.

        Regards.

  16. At today’s statistics 1 out of three black men can expect to see a prison.. that’s Jim crow racist– at it’s best. you bunch of haters .. you should have just sat down– shut t he hell up and learn something. Just because it may not be at your back door yet— or is it??? Is no reason to take such a racist- offense…

    1. 1 out of 3 black men commit a crime, so it makes sense they should be caged up. As a society we are tired of cancerous criminal elements regardless of color. The truth, as detailed in a previous post, commits crimes at a far greater rate than ANY other main stream demographic. Instead of working to police themselves and stop the circle of failure, they would race rather make excuses, blame other people, and use the race card.

No cares about the race card any more. I have no doubt there will be another civil war, and the next one will remedy the decisions of the past, then this country will be cleansed of evil doers and those that suck what is good and right out of society. We are preparing.

  17. Look the irony of all of this IS BlACK HISTORY!!!! How many years of brutal attacks name calling lynching before we were allowed this right of freedom of speech. Here you are again attempting to impose yourselves once again…….Don’t participate! !!! It is what it is let African Americans have this JESUS CHRIST STAY IN YOUR LANE

  18. SilenceDogood2010;
You need to remove Ms. Scott’s name from the letter, and you need to recant your Op Ed piece. Several online outlets have verified that she had nothing to do with what the high school kids did, nor did she have prior knowledge of what was planned. Remove these immediately; she is still receiving emails from ignorant people who believe that she must’ve had something to do with this since someone posted her name and contact info on that original letter.
If you want to do an informational Op Ed piece, how about doing one about how, in the “Social Media” age, trying to report the facts in any matter has been replaced by attempting to stir up emotional repsonses regardless if the story is based on fact.

    1. Mr. Schmidt,
No sir. I shall not rewrite this history because of a bad decision on the part of your fiance. She accepted an assignment of her own free will. She owns that part of it. Maybe next time she’s asked to provide some music for a program, she’ll do her own homework a little more thoroughly.

I do however realize that she was NOT part of the organizing, and that she probably had no idea of the contents of the program. I have noted those facts. For that, I did remove her contact information but her name shall remain.

      Respectfully submitted by SD2010.

      1. You are not rewriting history; you are clarifying the FACT that she had no knowledge WHATSOEVER of what the high school kids intended to do. If other sites can do the RIGHT thing and remove her information after learning the true HISTORY of what really happened, you should be responsible enough to do the same. She prepared her kids to perform in a program that had been done in the past to embrace Black History Month; what happened last week in no way, shape, or form resembled anything that has been performed in the past. Keeping her name and your Op Ed on your blog infers she had something to do with this fiasco. She had no knowledge of the content from the high school, nor was she given any information beforehand. This has been verified. You need to remove her name and recant your Op Ed because you are implying she had something to do with what the high school kids did.

      2. SD2010 –

I completely agree with Mr. Schmidt. To maintain that an elementary school teacher teacher would have known about the remaining content and agenda of the High School program when all she was asked to do was to prepare her class a few simple songs is short sided and terribly ignorant on your part. I too would be beyond pissed if I were in Mr. Schmidt’s shoes. By default you are inferring that Ms. Jones was complicit in the intent that has upset so many people.

If she is not removed from your blog I will certainly choose not to follow you at all. Too bad since this event is how I even found out about your “observations and facts” to begin with. Might want to work on the facts part….

  19. Okay so here is my thought on this whole thing. 1.Yes the program may have been wrong I can only read about what happened which is negative. So instead of trying to bash this play why don’t they publish the play put it on the web if it was not racially intended or whatever their thought process was. 2. I didn’t birth kids that were racist. That is a learned behavior. So where do kids learn hatred is the question we should be looking at? If as parents we show racism then guess what our kids learn that.

    1. Stephanie;
Ms. Scott was not asked to support “this”; she was asked to provide a group to sing songs for Black History Month, which has happened in years past and she has agreed to do in the past. The fact of the matter is, under the guise of what should have been a celebration of Black History, you have a select few who decided to force an agenda on an unsuspecting group who paid money to see the program, who had no idea what was going to happen. Hard realities such as this need to be handled by those who can have an intelligent and respectful discussion, not by the uninformed and the “squeaky wheels” whose only purpose in this is to deliberately get emotional responses, and I mean this from both sides of the debate. These discussions also need to happen in the proper setting; this clearly was not the proper setting. Also, the person who posted the original letter in this matter is just as much to blame for not putting out the correct information.

  20. I believe that the verification of facts should be requirement to all people reading and writing online blogs. While I do sanction the freedom of speech, I find in-sighting outrage though that freedom to be reckless, especially when all of the facts are not reported or updated when they come to light.

This program was developed and designed by OCHS students. Granted that OCPS did have what I consider to be a FAIL by not adequately having a process to review these types of programs, they did not develop the programming.

OCPS did respond (http://ocps-internet.ocss-va.org/news/News/Black%20History%20Month%20Program.pdf) which you did not attached to your blog, accepting responsibility for this event.

While I did not attend the presentation, I do have a child that attends the school. I believe that the school board is implementing a process to review thing more carefully moving forward.

You have many incorrect facts in your blog. Ms. Scott is an elementary school teacher that was asked to support this with a group singing songs. She did not organize or have the ability to approve it.

Unfortunately, when people are confronted with hard realities, they sometimes get offended. The reality is that living in America as a Black person has significant struggles. I think the real tragedy here is that the children that organized this program failed to provide any recent “Black History” that shed a positive light. There is little room in the Media for Positive News because that is not what increases viewer. To that end, our children’s’ education on these types of issues of are overwhelming negative.

  21. The truth is finally coming out . Orange County always been a prejudice county nothing have or will ever change . The personally myself think that the police officer and his wife who started this whole mess is just coming out of the closet by showing your true prejudice I don’t see where’s these kids nor the staff did anything wrong you all never really wanted to celebrate Black History month in this county for years and now that they have been you will try anything to stop it . Another thing that really pisses me off is when so many people make comments and saying these Thugs needs to be punished why are they Thugs ? Because they are black please get the definition of a Thug people wander why the black card is being use.

  22. I am appalled at what has conspired at Orange County High School over the last several days. On March 12th at Orange County High School, two unnamed teachers made a mockery of black history appreciation and police officers everywhere. This shows a total lack of respect from the teachers and students that participated.
Black History appreciation is celebrating and acknowledging all the great individuals who have strived to make a difference in a positive way.
Would Martin Luther King have condoned this sort of program? No, he would not have! In 1964, Martin Luther King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his nonviolent activism in the struggle to secure civil rights for African American. Would Rosa Parks condoned this sort of behavior? No, she would not have. She stood for what she believed in like a lady!
In every race and occupation, you are going to have “bad” people. That does not make that one race or that one occupation bad. The good out ways the bad!
Police Officers put their lives on the line everyday to serve and protect and I commend them for this! If you think Police Officers are all bad then please when someone commits a heinous crime against you, do not pick up the phone and dial 911 to ask for help from someone you condemn.
Teachers are entrusted daily with our children to help guide and teach them right from wrong, not to clothe them in ignorance and prejudice! That is what prejudice is, ignorance.
I have a child at OCHS and I have raised my child to respect everyone, regardless of race, religion and background.
I hope and pray that the individuals that work for Orange County School Systems will take a stand and rectify this situation and not bury their heads in the sand waiting for this to blow over. That is my two cents worth.

  23. If you are talking to me, I have no idea about my IP address. I am using my cell phone, sitting in my living room in Rhoadesville Va, which is in Orange Co. My child attends Lightfoot Elementary where this has taken place.

  24. SilenceDogood2010;
Have you researched this yet? You need to offer an apology for your Op Ed pieces, which are based totally on false information regarding Ms. Scott. I will not let this go until her name is cleared from all sites that have erroneously linked her to what the high school kids did. The majority of sites have cleared her, because they did get the facts. And as far as your statement; “If your name is anywhere on that program, you own part of it. In criminal terms, you are an “Accessory Before the fact“, the elementary school kids’ names are in the program, so I guess in your eyes they are guilty, too. Also, I don’t see you addressing the named administrative people the same way as you did her.
Since when did getting the facts straight take a back seat to instigating emotional responses?
Why don’t you email me, then I can give you a contact number for me, and we can actually talk about this…

    1. Mr. Schmidt,

Yes sir I have researched this. Her name STAYS! Period!

My site is the only site I have found that has reported the actual TEXT from the original. The Original Facebook post still has Ms. Scott’s Email & phone number posted for all to see. I chose to remove it once I learned she was not an organizer.

The REASON I even addressed Ms. Scott in my op eds was to inform my readers as to WHY I had chosen to remove / edit her contact info.

I have acknowledged that Ms. Scott was not an organizer of this program. I have also stated my opinion — In case you don’t know, the “OP” in OP ED stands for Opinion Editorial — that Ms. Scott should have done her own homework before agreeing to participate in it or subjugating her elementary students to it.

You can cry, whine, stomp your feet, hold your breath or use any other form of pouting all you want.

The story is already losing steam and if you would STOP with the childish behavior, in another week it’ll be all but forgotten. If you continue, I’ll continue to make sure that the ORIGINAL gains more steam.

I hold no grievance against you nor Ms. Scott. I wish you both the best of luck in your future.

      Respectfully submitted by SD2010.

      1. I will always “cry, whine, stomp my feet, hold my breath” if it helps to bring out the truth. Your threat to make sure the original story gains more steam will only fuel me more to make sure that the truth prevails. My offer to you still stands; email me and I will give you a contact number so we can talk.
The facts of any story should never take a back seat.
