Have You Ever Heard of The BBG?

The BBG = Broadcasting Board of Governors. A federal agency that is funded by We the People…..

This all came to my attention via the VIDEO FOOTAGE that was shown of the car chase in DC. A Network called Alhurra;

Alhurra is operated by the non-profit corporation “The Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Inc.” (MBN). MBN is financed by the U.S. Government through a grant from the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG), an independent federal agency. The BBG serves oversight and as a firewall to protect the professional independence and integrity of the broadcasters.

I thought Nancy Pelosi said that the cupboard was bare and there were NO CUTS that could be made.  I think I’ve just found  $0.767 BILLION  that could be cut.   The BBG!

BBG had 3,200 employees and a budget of US$535 million in 2002.

Funding – The BBG solicits annual funding from Congress via a proposed budget summary which is also available on their website. The Board submits an annual budget submission in which they lay out specific initiatives. Initiatives in 2011 included improving the global satellite distribution capacity, creating Radio Free Asia video programming and improving distribution of Voice of America content.

Announced in April 2011, the BBG will receive $10 million from Congress. During the federal funding dispute for the fiscal year 2011, President Obama sided with the BBG agreeing to language that the organization would “expand unrestricted access to information on the Internet.” This work includes anti-censorships campaigns in China and other repressive regimes.

Their 2012 budget request was US$767 million.

Why are we hiring NON US CITIZENS ONLY and paying them close to $100,000.00 per year?

I'm just a concerned citizen. I believe that the Founding Fathers created a great Republic & it's slowly falling apart at the seams.

  1. It’s probably accompanied by a listing for citizens. They have to do this to make sure they get enough people who are fluent in Spanish and have the other qualifications.

    1. No, I don’t think there is any posting FOR US CITIZENS. They DO THIS because they, the current admin…. aka “Dem-Mestic Terrorists” want to collapse the US Economy.

      Respectfully submitted by SD2010.

  2. The Union (AFGE Local 1812) that represents the broadcasters and journalists at the Voice of America and the Office of Cuba Broadcasting (which are overseen by the BBG) filed a grievance against this practice of using taxpayer money to hire non-US citizens. The hiring of non-US citizens, despite the existence of qualified US citizens, has been going on in the Agency for more than two decades.

    The Union won a case in front of a Federal Arbitrator (American Federation of Government Employees, Local 1812 and Broadcasting Board of Governors, Federal Mediation O-AR-4298 August 27, 2007) which ruled in favor of the union. However, the BBG appealed to the Federal Labor Relations Authority (FLRA). The FLRA rejected all of the BBG’s complaints. The Agency then filed an appeal to the Federal District Court and we await the decision from that Court take out>> in interests of space(which is taking forever). So, the BBG is using taxpayers’ money to fight a legal battle to prevent US citizens from having the priority in hiring for government jobs that they are legally entitled to.

    The BBG is adamant in “protecting their right to hire non-US citizens”, even if there are plenty of qualified and available US citizens for the jobs. The vacancy announcement you show is a perfect example of this illegal practice and we have not found a comparable (twin) announcement for US citizens. There is no need for an announcement for a non-US citizen specifically in any case since there are possibly thousands (millions) of US citizens who would qualify for this position.

    AFGE Local 1812 is determined to fight this illegal practice. We have solicited the help of our National office to make sure the BBG bureaucrats end this practice. These positions should be held by U.S. citizens especially when they entail explaining U.S. views to foreign populations and especially now with the current economic crisis.

    1. I need to correct a portion of this. The Agency was had to withdraw their appeal to the District Court and then failed to follow the legally binding Arbitrator’s decision. The Union had to file a complaint to the FLRA to force them to comply. We are awaiting that decision.
