Now, since we know we have a problem, the next step is to come up with a solution. I think my friend B.H. Goswick has done just that. He is an executive member, precinct vice chair, of his local GOP and he’s informed me that his Party Chairman has just approved that this petition be brought up at the September meeting. If it gets approved and passed by the executive committee, they will be sending copies to the state GOP and to the National Committee and more. This is GRASSROOTS, BOTTOM UP action my friends.
Below is the generic ‘Petition’ that I would suggest each and every County GOP Executive Committee should bring up and vote on during their next meeting. Feel free to copy and paste the text and modify it for your particular locale and state.
Petition to the Republican National Committee in Opposition of the Rules adopted at the 2012 Republican National Convention
Whereas, the 1st Amendment to the United States Constitution guarantees the people a right to petition the government, and the party, for a redress of grievances; and,
Whereas, members of the Republican National Committee and the United States Congress take an oath to support the Constitution; and,
Whereas, the United States Constitution provides a system of checks and balances that is designed to prevent the abuse of power by government, or party, and to preserve the power and freedom of the people; and,
Whereas, during the 2012 Republican National Convention held in Tampa, Florida the adoption of new rules to govern the party were voted on by the delegates in attendance; and,
Whereas, the chairman, John Boehner, deemed the new rules accepted via voice vote despite the equal voicing of “Nay” and overwhelming calls for ‘Point of Order’ and a Roll Call vote; and,
Whereas, the PREAMBLE of the 2008 Republican Rules states;
“BE IT RESOLVED, That the Republican Party is the party of the open door. Ours is the party of liberty, the party of equality, of opportunity for all, and favoritism for none.”
and we as a party should strictly adhere to this statement; and,
Whereas, since the Republican Party has been recently given a lift by the efforts of grassroots such as the local TEA parties and 9-12 groups throughout the country; and,
Whereas, to quell the voices of these grassroots groups by adopting rules that provide overwhelming power to the Republican National Committee is an act of tyranny; and,
Whereas, rules 12, 15(a), 15(b) and 16 grant unprecedented power to the committee; and,
Whereas, future Presidential candidates and campaigns will effectively inherit any expanded powers of the RNC rules unless those rules are removed; now, therefore, be it resolved:
That the(insert your local GOP name/XXX Republican Party of XXX County, Your state)hereby requests that the National Committee use these new rules in a ONE TIME ACTION to rescind the rules changes; and,
That the _______________ hereby requests the Republican National committee never again act in such a way to override or quell the voice of the people; and,
That the _______________ hereby requests that the rules committee and any changes to previous rules be counted via a ROLL CALL votes by each and every convention delegate; and,
That a copy of this resolution with the original authorizing signature of the Clerk of the _______________ be sent to the Office of the Republican National Committee and to the Office of the State Republican Party and to the Office of the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives and the Majority Leader of the United States Senate and that copies of the signed resolution be sent to each Republican member of the United States Senate and House of Representatives.
