Very nice little story but I happened to notice that they left out a KEY point. Congressman White was a Republican.

To the dismay of the Brady Campaign and other gun ban groups, President Barack Obama didn’t address gun control during his State of the Union address on January 25th. However, Newsweek reports that “in the next two weeks, the White House will unveil a new gun-control effort,” and that the White House confirms, “Obama will address the gun issue in a separate speech, likely early next month.” According to Newsweek, Obama believes that gun laws have been “too loose for much longer than just the past few weeks” following the murders in Tucson, Arizona.
Precisely what President Obama might have in mind is uncertain. His post-election transition website advocated reimposing the expired federal “assault weapon” ban, but that ban would clearly be irrelevant in the wake of a shooting that involved a firearm not covered by the old ban.
The President, a long-time gun control supporter, has been conspicuously silent on gun control restrictions since taking office. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of the anti-gun groups prodding him to support their agendas. Mayors Against Illegal Guns, which sent the President a long list of gun control recommendations in August of 2009, is proposing that all private sales of firearms be subject to checks through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS)—which would have been irrelevant in Tucson, since the accused killer acquired his guns from a dealer. MAIG is also calling for “fixing” NICS. Among the many “fixes” the group has in mind is that “people who have been suspended or expelled from a federally funded college or university because of mental illness” and “people who are compelled by a court to take medication for mental illness or to get other mental health care” would be prohibited from possessing firearms. MAIG also proposes to extend the prohibition to anyone who has had a drug-related arrest, a failed drug test, an admission of drug use, or a drug-related conviction within the previous five years.
Concurrently, the Brady Campaign is throwing its support behind H.R. 308—the “more than 10 round” magazine ban introduced by Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.)—and asks the group’s supporters to sign a petition urging “a few basic steps,” with neither the “steps” nor the intended recipient of the petition disclosed (to read a detailed fact sheet on H.R. 308, please click here).
The Violence Policy Center, which guided McCarthy in crafting her magazine ban bill, is supporting it with yet another of its countless “analyses”– Accessories to Murder: High-Capacity Magazines—and a similar effort directed against the type of pistol used in Tucson. The VPC uses the opportunity to suggest, as it often does, that gun ownership is fading, by referring to standard magazines for self-defense handguns as a marketing tool the firearm industry uses to appeal to “its shrinking customer base.” That’s an interesting argument to hear from a group that has no members, while the number of guns possessed by Americans increases year after year.
The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence—VPC leader Josh Sugarmann’s employer back when the group was known as the National Coalition to Ban Handguns—advocates not merely running NICS checks on gun buyers, but “investigating” them as well. The group also insists that the Tucson shooting was the result of “insurrectionist rhetoric” the group blames on conservatives, various politicians, and the five justices who joined the Supreme Court’s Heller decision—rather than being the act of one deranged individual, as all available evidence suggests.
And, in a return to his modus operandi of vilifying gun shows and the purchase of firearms by show attendees, this week anti-gun Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), introduced legislation to “establish background check procedures for gun shows.” As usual, this bill is not about gun shows. Rather, S. 35 is the latest rendition in a long line of Lautenberg-introduced bills that are nothing more than “solutions” in search of a problem. Numerous government studies have determined that gun shows are an insignificant source of firearms misused in crime.
Which, if any, of these proposals and theories will get the president’s endorsement remains to be seen. But gun owners should be prepared: The second two years of President Obama’s term may be tougher than the first.

2nd item that I found today is Rep. Peter King’s nonsense bill Banning Firearms from 1000 feet from an event which an elected official is in attendance. Just FYI for you folks who may have a hard time with distances and measurements, 1320 Feet is 1/4 of a mile (Quarter of a mile)
WASHINGTON – Defying those who assert the right to bear arms at town halls, Rep. Peter King (R-Seaford) Wednesday introduced strict new gun-control legislation that would bar people from taking firearms to public events attended by elected federal officials. The bill would create a 1,000-foot gun-free zone around the event.

The 2011-2012 biennium of the North Carolina General Assembly will convene on January 26, 2011 at noon. The Moccasin Creek Minutemen and NCFreedom are organizing a rally in Raleigh at the General Assembly.
It has been over 110 years since the Wilmington Insurrection of 1898 and the Republicans have controlled both houses of the General Assembly. We want all of our representatives to understand why they were put in office and not forget why the people placed their faith in them.

TIMBERLAKE — John Franklin Tillett died on January 14, 2011 after a short battle with cancer.
John was born in Georgetown, S.C. on April 21, 1960. His family moved to Raleigh when he was two years old, where John lived until he graduated from Sanderson High School in 1978. After graduation, he pulled a hitch with the US Navy Seabees.
After his time in the service, John returned to school and graduated from North Carolina State University in 1987 with a bachelor’s degree in Poultry Science. After graduation from NCSU, he moved to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia to work in the poultry industry. On March 4, 1989, he married Amy Smith Tillett and they lived in Elkton, Virginia.
In 2002, he moved back to North Carolina and lived with his wife and his parents on the Tillett homeplace in Mt. Tirzah from 2006 until his death on January 14, 2011.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Amy Smith Tillett, his parents William Franklin and Janie Blalock Tillett, two sisters Sue Tillett Scruggs and Mary Ann Tillett McBride, three nephews, Thomas Andrew Scruggs, Alexander David Scruggs, Reade Lawrence McBride, and one niece, Melissa Grace McBride.
John was an avid fisherman and loved both fresh and saltwater fishing.
The funeral service will be held on January 17, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Tirzah United Methodist Church in Timberlake, NC. The family will receive visitors at the church from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. before the service. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Tirzah United Methodist Church, 4553 Surl-Mt. Tirzah Rd., Timberlake, NC, 27583.
DURHAM — John B. Makros, 80, died Saturday in the VA Hospital.
He was born November 30, 1930 in Kardamyla, Chios, Greece and previously was a longtime resident of Huntington, NY. Most recently he lived with his sister in Cary.
John came to the U.S. in 1947 and graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem, after which he attended Appalachian State Univ.
He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army in the Korean War as a Greek language translator and nurse.
John opened Spartacus Restaurant on Long Island, NY with his brother and sister, and was employed by Waldbaum’s supermarket for many years.
He was a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend to many and will be deeply missed.
Surviving are his sister, Ralitsa (Rali) Kalfas of Cary; a brother, George Makros of Rockville Center, NY.; five nephews, three nieces and multiple great nieces and nephews.
The funeral liturgy will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday from St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, with Fr. James O. Berends presiding. Friends may visit 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service.

DURHAM — Mr. Douglas Kinney Davidson, 88, formerly of Donlee Dr. in North Durham, died Thursday morning at his home.
Mr. Davidson was born in Topeka, Kansas, the son of the late Helen Kinney Stewart Davidson and the late Lewis Clarke Davidson.
He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving during World War II.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the U.S. State Department as a Foreign Service Officer.
Mr. Davidson is survived by his wife, Eleanor Catherine Rogers Davidson; daughters, Kathie Lynn Davidson, Shirin Lee Davidson and Sue Davidson McCorkle; a son, Douglas Rogers Davidson; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The family will have a private memorial service but will receive friends Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.
The family is being assisted in Durham by Clements Funeral Service, Inc.

So, now I would bring your attention to a “Pledge of Hatred” that Glenn sent to DC this past week. He created this “PoH” (pronounced pooh as in Winnie the Pooh) after the events of Saturday January 9, 2011 in Tucson, Az. Also to be noted is that majority of the Democrats have not, and WILL NOT, sign this pledge.
As a matter of fact, Media Matters (George Soros liberal media site) has stated this a trick by Glenn to entrap them.
Politico reports that Fox News producer Virginia Grace is “reaching out to members of Congress to try to get them to sign on to the pledge denouncing violence that Glenn Beck unveiled on the air yesterday.” In the email, Grace states that Beck will “publicize the list of participating members tonight on our show as a message of unity.”
In reality, Democrats will be refusing to sign the pledge for two reasons:1) As noted above, Beck is a cancer upon the body politic who constantly uses violent rhetoric, race-baits, and furthers bizarre conspiracy theories.
2) Part of the pledge implicitly slams virtually every Democratic member of Congress, along with President Obama, and conflates them with violent revolutionaries

* I denounce violence, regardless of ideological motivation.

* I denounce those who wish to tear down our system and rebuild it in their own image, whatever that image may be.

Release Date For Atlas Shrugged I’d been checking regularly on IMDB.com for updated information regarding the release date for Atlas Shrugged, the movie. For a while, they had January 1 as the release date, but I was pretty sure that wasn’t right. And then, at first, I thought it was a joke when I read April 15 was to be the date. So, I did some googling, and yep…that’s it.

Liberal Entitlement Mentality or “LEM” puts an entire plane full of passengers in risk. Someone should have snatched that Blackberry out of her little hand and destroyed it on the spot.
An airline passenger has a beef with liberal commentator Arianna Huffington, but it’s her BlackBerry use — not her politics — that’s apparently ticked him off.
Huffington was on a United Express flight operated by Atlantic Southeast Airlines from Washington to New York on Saturday night when a fellow traveler became upset when she allegedly continued to use her smartphone after the pilot asked passengers to turn off electronic devices before takeoff.
The New York Post identified the man as Ellis Belodoff, 53, of Plainview, Long Island.
“She was putting the use of her BlackBerry ahead of the safety of the entire plane. It was purely her own self-interest she was concerned with,” Belodoff said, according to the New York Post.
Belodoff told the newspaper that a flight attendant finally asked Huffington to turn off her BlackBerry after he repeatedly tried to get the crew member’s attention.
” ‘He tells me, ‘Calm down, sir!’ I told him I was calm. If I wasn’t calm, I would have ripped it out of her hand!’ “
Huffington, the founder of the Huffington Post website, is the latest air traveler to face the ire of another passenger upset by pre-takeoff phone use.
Last month, a 68-year-old Idaho man was charged with misdemeanor battery after police say he struck a teen who would not turn off his iPhone while the plane they were in was taxiing for takeoff.
OXFORD — Daryl R. Bradley, 55, passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at Maria Parham Medical Center.
Mr. Bradley was born in Durham Co., the son of Faye Roberts Bradley and the late Earl Gaither Bradley. He served in the United States Marine Corps for 4 years, and was a member of the American Legion Post 416. Mr. Bradley was currently employed at UNC Hospitals in the HVAC shop as a chiller operator for over 25 years. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donnie Bradley.
Mr. Bradley is survived by his wife, Pat Gregory Bradley of Oxford; his step-daughter, Kim Jernigan of Delaware; his brothers, Dwayne Bradley and wife, Kelly of Bahama, and Deane Bradley and wife, Delaine of Benson; and his two grandchildren, Katie Jernigan and Eryn Jernigan.
A funeral service will be held Sunday 2 p.m. at Berea Baptist Church by the Rev. Philip Mumford and the Rev. Jay Fogleman. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 to 8 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home in Durham. The casket bearers will be Ken Davis, Sr., Ken Davis, Jr., Mike Jones, Max Braxton, Kevin Mitchell, and Tommy Stubbs. The honorary casket bearers will be members of the American Legion Post 416. Flowers are accepted or contributions may be made to the family of Patricia Bradley at 1102 Oxford Loop, Oxford, NC 27565. The family is being assisted in Durham by Clements Funeral Service, Inc.
